A Spoonful of Opening Doors
I don't know what it is about me, but I love being able to open doors. And no, this isn't an anti-chivalry rant--feel free to open the door for me whenever, young men. This is an extension of the symbolism of open doors as expanded opportunity.
I thought of this topic as I was walking around the HFAC working. I was inner-commenting on having access to a lot of rooms in the building thanks to my work, when I reflected on gaining access to one more locked door and how much I liked it. It's not like I get much utility out of the specific room that I gained access to, but I do get utility from being able to open that door.
What is it about a newly opened door that excites the pulse and brings a smile to my face? I guess a bit of it is the power that accompanies it, power feels good when it doesn't bring with it concern or worry. It also means I have more options, and I like options. I think the best thing is having doors open that I thought were forever closed to me, like Latin dancing and culture, or like song-writing.
You know what I think? I think there are some doors in your life that you're wishing would open and maybe you've been waiting for a while for them to open to you. And you know what? Sometimes you just need to knock. Heck, sometimes you need to ram the door down. Somethings are that important. I just would be careful with the ram--sometimes there are people on the other side. ;)
